Precautions for using a chick incubator

Many friends have a misunderstanding after buying an egg incubator, that is, I bought a fully automatic machine. I dont need to worry about putting eggs in it. I can just wait for 21 days to emerge, but I will feel that the seedlings emerge after 21 days. There are relatively few or the seedlings have this kind of problem. In fact, this kind of thinking is very dangerous, and the cost is also huge, because the electricity bill for 21 days is not small, and the eggs in the incubator are really wasted!

 Issues that should be noted

1. Manually move the eggs from the hatching egg tray to the hatching tray when placing the tray. During the operation, the room temperature should be kept at about 25 °C, and the action should be fast. The eggs of each incubator should be completed within 30 to 40 minutes. The time is too long. adverse to embryonic development.

2. Appropriately reduce the temperature, and control the temperature at 37.1 ~ 37.2 .

3. Properly increase the humidity and control the humidity at 70-80%.

Chicks after hatching

Chicken hatching to 20.5 days after hatching in large numbers, the whole batch of hatching only needs to pick up 2 chicks to be liquidated; for hatching eggs in batches, due to uneven hatching, they will be picked up every 4 to 6 hours. During operation, chicks with poor umbilical cord absorption and dry fluff should be temporarily left in the hatcher. Raise the temperature of the hatcher by 0.5 to 1°C, and the chickens will be treated as weak chicks after 21.5 days.

Factors Affecting Hatching

During the development of chicken embryos, gas exchange must be carried out, especially after the 19th day of incubation (12 hours earlier in summer), the embryos begin to breathe through the lungs, the oxygen demand gradually increases, and the carbon dioxide output also gradually increases.

At this time, if the ventilation is poor, it will cause severe hypoxia in the incubator. Even if the respiration of the hatched chick is increased by 2-3 times, it still cannot meet its oxygen demand. As a result, cell metabolism is inhibited and acidic substances are accumulated in the body. Metabolic respiratory acidosis occurs due to increased partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the tissue, resulting in a decrease in cardiac output, myocardial hypoxia, necrosis, cardiac disturbance, and cardiac arrest.

 It was determined that the oxygen consumption of each embryo egg during the whole incubation period was 4-4.5L, and the carbon dioxide emission was 3-3.5L. Experiments have shown that if the oxygen content in the incubator drops by 1%, the hatching rate will drop by 5%; the carbon dioxide content around the embryo egg should not exceed 0.5%.

The normal amount of oxygen in the air can be maintained at 20%-21%. Therefore, the key to ventilation is to try to reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide around the eggs, and the effect of ventilation is related to the structure of the incubator, the architectural design of the incubator, and the internal and external environment of the incubator.

 Comparing the factors that affect the hatching rate, temperature is the first, followed by ventilation.

Why are many books sorted by temperature, humidity, ventilation…. instead of temperature, ventilation, and humidity?

The reason is very simple, the method of artificial hatching is imitated by hens holding eggs. Mother birds should choose to hold their eggs in a dry place. Birds are mostly on trees, and the number of hatching at a time is not large, so ventilation does not need to be considered too much;

Artificial incubation is different. The capacity of modern incubators is more than tens of thousands of eggs, so ventilation is very important. Moreover, many experiments in the past few years have proved that anhydrous incubation does not affect or does not affect hatchability very much.

Most of the old-fashioned incubators have disadvantages such as small number of fans, low speed and unreasonable distribution. Not only are the ventilation incomplete, there are dead corners, but also the heat of the heat source cannot be sent to all places as soon as possible and evenly, which makes the temperature difference in the incubator too large. For this purpose, the incubator should be remodeled or replaced with a new one.
